VLog #22

Facebook link
YouTube link here|||Thoughts:
I don't want a formation editor. I want a map editor as well as modding. If modding is going to be "as good as in SC2," Chris should drop the formation editor and give us modding tools instead.
Also, Scathis will always be the GPG head guru in my book.|||Have you noticed that GPG have moved on to using 3D maps? I think custom tools for that is much harder to make public.
I would be happy to play on an untextured contoured plain, but a map as simple as this hasn't even showed up yet. The skill and interest perhaps is not that great among map makers.
I am already happy that there is a possibility for formation editing.|||So, units will move/behave more like organic units rather than robots... That's it, I'm in love.|||I've never seen pre-built formation shapes make a huge difference in any RTS, honestly.|||Did anyone really use formations in FA? In 1v1 ranked, formations are only used when 1 player is steamrolling the other and wants to show off his army, at least to my experience. I think when an army includes shields they may be useful, but the games I played didn't see shields most of the time.|||Epiphenomenon|||Epiphenomenon|||Quote:|||Epiphenomenon|||If they're worried about map editors/formation editors/etc, being difficult to use, they should consider releasing versions *now* and use the out-of-house testers to provide feedback, and help create an easier UI.|||BlueC|||building templates were awesome for mass fab farm. I kind of miss that in SupCom2|||SupCom2 has no adjacency bonuses and you would have to pay the whole template up front. That pretty much negates the usefulness of any template system.|||BlueC|||Grim Tuesday|||I dunno. If we get a formation editor the FIRST thing I will do, before I even play a game (if possible, are we talking an out-of-game or in-game thing here? Can the formations be saved for later games etc?) if make a parabola shaped formation like someone drew in one of the other threads. We would really need to play the game before coming to conclusion on whether other formations are viable. For SC2, for example, I would love to make a scattered formation (if possible) to counter arty fire.|||Stin|||Meh, not everything has to be used on a competitive level though.|||Col. Jessep|||My concern is that GPG concentrates development resources on a gimmick feature that might add a day or two of fun instead seeing the big picture. Modding and mapping will keep the game interesting and fresh for month. Or is there anybody who thinks SupCom2 would not profit immensely from new maps?|||Well apparently some people wanted a formation editor. So there is no reason if it is feasible why they shouldn't add a formation editor.|||Stin|||First thing I will do with the formation editor:

They better have an ASCII formations editor included...
How about a penis formation?
