Quote:|||I think free to play would be awesome with the right micro transaction business model.|||Huh, this sounds interesting.|||Nice to know that he's shaking **** up.|||Well aren't all his game F2P. They certainly aren't P2P.|||Free2play like quakelive free to play? As in you never pay anything for it ever? How is a game like that viable btw.|||Ask EA Phenomic (BattleForge), Jagex (Runescape) and SOE (Free Realms).
It's certainly won't be the SupCom 2 skin job some have suspected K&C will be, at least not if GPG wants it to stand out/pay itself back. Don't know what to think of this if it's true.|||to me this feels untrue and misinterpreted :)
though i got a foul taste in my mouth for f2p, i dunno if it would fit a rts|||Isn't everything without a monthly subscription fee basically "free" to play? Besides the initial cost of buying the game that is.|||Legion Darrath|||
Somehow I doubt this is the case...|||Its more like lost in translation here.|||Oh no! It's true?|||Well, we've only got one vague translation to go on. It's hardly gospel.|||Hmmm, f2p games usually aren't fair at all. This usually involves the base game as free and then all the cool add-ons, in-game features, items and units payble.
I just hope it won't be like Battleforge, none that plays the game with the free version stands a chance against someone who bought new units.|||Ugh, I hope not. Battleforge was supposedly a "free to play" rts but if you really wanted to get into it you had to spend hundreds to get decent decks (units) to use. Even with EA's name behind it, it didn't do well. The price of the game dropped from about $50 to $15 in only a few months. GPG, please don't do the same with Kings and Castles!!!|||DeadMG|||Didn't necessarily mean that the translation itself was vague, but the information contained within it was not particularly specific.|||Kryo's translation is spot-on but I will wait for confirmation from another source before I get excited about it. Free2play client game isn't is not an exact description and could mean a lot of things. LOL was free to play too but there also was a 'full version' which contained all the content.
I actually hope we get a similar system for KnC. A free version with basic content to test the game with the option to upgrade and a full version which contains everything. I don't like 'hunting down' additional DLC packs one at a time and would really like one package to get all the content.
Not relying on a big publisher for financing the game AND making it free2play with DLC is a huge step. I really like the concept. GPG won't have the publisher breathing down their neck and can finally make all the important design decisions by themselves and the free2play concept will hopefully bring regular updates. If this works out GPG will be able to start an awesome franchise and it will belong to them 100%.
Good luck Chris Taylor and GPG!|||DeadMG|||Kryo|||i talked to servo lately in steam, and he told me that pcgames probably misunderstood Chris Taylor in this case, so probably no free2play|||Wow,
I love PC Games, they always do it wrong, especially with GPG.
