[:1]IT'S FRIDAY! SURELY THE NEXT VLOG IS BUT MOMENTS AWAY!
Or perhaps someone quietly took Chris Taylor aside and reminded him that the weekly VLOGS were becoming increasingly elaborate, requiring a not insignificant amount of time and resources to produce, while the launch of the game is stil a long way off.
I wonder what the average cost of each VLOG was? I think they do/will have a positive impact on future sales of the game, but the question becomes how much of a positive impact do/will they have when measured against the cost of producing them? That's a question for market research I suppose (which would also cost money). It seems like the kind of question that can only be guessed at.
Let's say each VLOG cost ~$100 to make. 30 VLOGs would be $3000. If the game itself sells for $50, then the Vlogs would need to have resulted in 60 additional copies of the game sold at launch. I would say that the VLOG are likely to achieve that much, if not much more.|||The Vlogs had a positive influence on me. The map editor, the artwork, the early models, they all look promising. I'm optimistic as far as the visuals are concerned. However, a game is more than just visuals and many important design decisions are not final and can influence the game greatly. Namely the economy, the tech tree, unit design, faction diversity, balance...
Good luck to GPG, I hope it will turn out just right. It would be nice if GPG could nail it and start another great franchise, a franchise they own. I think that's pretty much the bottom line: I want them to become a successful and really independent developer (without a publisher breathing down their neck and taking away their most valuable IPs).|||The VLogs were very good in my opinion. They opened up the development process, at least some of the pre-production parts of it, to people who mostly are ignorant of what goes on behind the scenes. I learned a lot more of the difficulties involved in game-making and my attitude towards developers has changed. I think if more devs did this then there would be less of that annoying sense of entitlement that I see so often in PC gaming forums.|||MUST. BUY. GAME. ASAP!!
Need... to.... feeeeeed.... vlog addiction..........
NOW!|||No impact. I would buy pretty much any GPG game at this point, just because I've liked every game they've do far made.|||Absolutely hearted the vlogs. Shared every last one on Facebook. I know for a fact that a few people have been watching them.
Been set to buy this release day/week, but the recent talk of AI and monthly downloads/microtransactions have me worried.|||BulletMagnet|||Col. Jessep|||On the upside; GPG is going publisher free. Most, if not all, of the money from microtransactions will go to the people doing the work.|||mojom@n|||Col. Jessep|||X-Cubed|||BulletMagnet
