Hmm, I wonder if KnC is a good game for my "fighting game tiers" idea?
The idea is, fighting games can be somewhat unbalanced when it comes to characters and still be competitive, because they have 12+ characters and thus as long as noone is too OP then there will be enough good characters to make top level play interesting, whilst allowing other characters to serve different purposes (such as a weak but easy beginner character).
Same diff for KnC. If we go for a more mundane medieval theme rather than a crazy fantasy one, then instead of factions/races we could have "Armies" or "Leaders", perhaps divided into various countries or races. We could share a lot of the basic units (ie. humanoid ones, cavarly, basic tech like cannons/catapults, etc) whilst having special units for unique flavour.
Also dragons are easy, since we're all familiar with the D&D concept of different coloured dragons having different abilities. So dragons are just a texture swap, hahah.
With all of this sharing of units, this means we can have 6 or 10 or 20 or whatever different "factions", without needing too much dev time. It also means that it doesnt have to be as perfectly balanced, as long as noone is OP, and there ends up being 3-4 viable factions in the top tier, then it can be competitively interesting.|||You mean like Age of Mythology? That worked pretty well in that game.|||scotchtape622|||K&C will have at least 2 races, confirmed at least. supposedly there would be 3, but we know nothing of the third side.
The two confirmed sides from the Vlogs are: "Empire" and "Ancients".
Empire:
More traditional medieval race with good amounts of technology (balista, catapult, giant gunpowder gun etc.) thrown in and a dragon.
Ancients:
Unknown but they have a "library" structure that resembles WC3 style/generic fantasy, so they're probably the magic race of the game.|||ive pushed for factionlessness... but havnt they confirmed 3 factions?
anyways, it'd be sweet... to you know customize you as you go... kinda like research in supcom but if you go one way you cant go another (if you go cybran you cant go aeon.. .so a merge of research and factions kinda... kinda)
say if you buy a sacrificial altar you can recruit undead armies, but the nyou are unholy and cannot get battleangels or whatnot|||You should try Genesis of Empires II, a map for WC3. It has that sort of mechanic in.|||AdmiralZeech|||re1wind
