Please use GPGnet

It had to be said.|||Yes, please do.|||Yeah, everyone acts like GPGnet is this horrible thing, but it is honestly better than many of the alternatives.|||Yes, use GPGNet. Don't give up on it as it has much potential. Just fix the bugs, make it a bit friendlier to new players (patching system needs work), and add in a few optimizations for newer versions of .Net, and you've got an MP system that can match any other. It will be good for the SupCom community as well, because many people who gave up SupCom thought it was a POS. A new GPGNet could attract old users back. If K&C uses GPGNet along with SupCom and FA, then perhaps K&C users will be more willing to get FA and vice versa. So I don't know how going with GPGNet can be a bad decision in the long run.

GPGNet could also help in building a brand-name. Just as Blizzard places Battle.net as the MP client for most of its games, GPGNet could be the standard for GPG games. A good GPGNet 2.0 could build the brand.|||It's not gonna happen. They abandoned it for a reason. Even if it were workable the changes in gaming in recent years is seeing developers move away from providing their own solution. Why should they pay to develop their own system when dedicated services are available to just plug in?

I wish this wasn't the case but services like Live and Steam (possibly Impulse) are going to take over. I'll be shocked if they bring back GPGnet.|||I wish battle.net was a generic service other developers could get in on.|||zordon|||Fix the bugs first:

- get proper NAT negotiation in, borrow Impulse's or Steam's solution to it

- don't let GPGnet install 10 incremental patches after each other; just one patch (latest version) is all people can bear every time they come late to the game with a fresh install

- fix the Vault bugs

- get some form of autodownloading of community maps/mods in

- give GPGnet chat avatars/achievements to every new race you introduce in an expansion.

Then give the entire service a great medieval fantasy skin for KaC (or even faction skins).

Also implement a persistent online medieval fantasy world war.

All that, on top of the existing neat features of SupCom GPGnet along with the game itself being good as well, will win you the internet. No doubt about it. :)|||Using GPGnet in its current state would be awful. They should rewrite it from scratch, if they really want to use something like that.|||what people want is the features of GPGNet. give it to them in working form anywhere, and they'll be happy.|||GPGnet 2.0

nuf said.|||From what I understand, they cannot fix GPGnet because nobody who developed it still works at GPG and has any idea how it actually works.

This seems a bit far-fetched (that those left don't know how it work, I am pretty sure those who developed it ARE in fact now gone) and could be pure speculation. It is just what I have heard.

*awaits an Eric pwning*|||yeah .net developers are soooooo hard to find.|||I approve of this thread.|||RastiMinato
