Tier's or Research Based?

As the title suggests, is this game going to be based upon the tier system on TA/SupCom1/FA or more like the research based system in SupCom 2?
I've grown to like the research system so i dont really mind which it is?
And maybe, just maybe, its something COMPLETELY new, not re-hased from a tried and tested technique? :-)|||See this suggestion.
Combine tiers with research, basic units, advanced units, mini-legendaries, full legendaries, with appropriate but limited amounts of research per Tier. Tiers that do not make previous tier obsolete, designed in such a way to require you to use them all.|||I like it!|||I do not want research, I'd rather see a better implemented Tier system.

though i also think it would be cool if some research would be-autopurchased at a certain time.... i dunno, after 10 minutes your simple milita soldiers automaticaly becomes swordsmen... and there's nothing you can do to prevent that
you might say this wont have any effect since everyone get the upgrade... but it could be used as a anti-rush mechanic-i.e your building is tougher early due to your crappy early melee.... and other things...
