[:1]Just curious, because I haven't seen any info about this on any of the press releases.
Who will be publishing K&C when it comes out? Is it going to a Microsoft game? Or another SE collaboration? Or something completely different?
Just curious, because I've been liking what I see in the video blogs, but I wasn't exactly thrilled with the direction SE pushed supcom2...|||I believe they (GPG) will be publishing it themselves, so to speak.|||So far, there is no publisher, GPG is going on their own. It may change though, depending mostly on the financial condition of GPG.|||Correct me, if I'm wrong, but didn'T CT said somwhere in an interwiev that all the people on GPG are publishing the game with their own money and that from GPG?|||I don't remember the interview, but I know that KnC is self-published, so they are using their own money to fund this project. I truly wish them good luck; the last time they tried this was with Demigod, but ran out of money at about 90% completion, which is when Stardock became involved. I remember the inteview with CT at DICE, where he said if an independent dev wants to self-publish, they have to have all the money they need for the whole development cycle, because he has learned from Demigod that he can't go part of the way on his own and then join a publisher.|||and thats the great deal about K&C, they can do what they think that is good, and may lend a ear to the community. As long as they have money. I hope it works :)|||The dream would be a publisher watching the vlogs and going "CT we here at XXXXX love what you're doing, just keep it up and we'll throw money at you! Also in the contract we sign, we agree to not be allowed to say it's our money, change the kings to clowns, halfway through"
If only..|||This contract from Dream Publisher states that we will throw money at you until there is serious trouble leaving the city. We will see to it that we do absolutely nothing except dedicate all our time to throwing money at you. Additionally, you can do the Q&A, or there doesn't even have to be Q&A. As a matter of fact, you can change Q&A to mean Quack&Albany. Just have our money.|||I think that GPG should seriously look into Crowd Sourced Fundraising. This would be epic for the game (and GPG's fans) and revolutionary for the industry.|||brahmasmi|||Add the Donate button already..
People who donate could even get in front of the line in Crackedout mailbag(unless the question had been answered a lot), a look at more concept art and a definite spot in the beta, when it arrives(even tho it was going to be open, right?)..
Just some of the stuff other developers has done here in Denmark..
Everyone would eventually get access to the stuff, that "VIPs" would get, of course..
I'd donate even if it didn't have any of the stuff I suggested..|||I assume if we wanted to help out we could buy shares in GPG. It is on the stock market isnt it? I assume it is, therefore, to help out, BUY SHARES!
If it's not on the stock market, ignore above comment...|||wobbles-grogan|||Polynomial|||Crowd sourced funding for a modern, large budget game?
lol. Have fun getting 500 dedicated fans to raise several million dollars to pay just 50% ish of the budget.|||Every little bit helps, right?|||^__^
Thanks for the updates guys. This thread leaves me very happy indeed...|||Probably better not to have a donate button. Might make them look desperate for cash, which is probably something they don't want to project.|||scotchtape622|||But wouldn't they be under much more pressure to earn money and earn it fast? Investors want profits, good games come second. Good games should bring profits, but SupCom and FA, despite being good games, weren't the most profitable games (perhaps why THQ dumped GPG), and investors might not want to wait for a game to get the pre-release polish it needs. Also, projects like SupCom and KnC, or ambitious RTSes of that type, are high-risk projects in a niche market with what I would think are relatively low profit margins. Back in the vanilla SupCom days, THQ was the only publisher that was willing to fund such an ambitious project. Since GPG focuses on high-risk games, I'm not sure how much being on the stock market would help them, as people might think the company would be too risky to invest in or would give little return.|||I think they ought to self-publish. It's fairly easy to do now that many gamers are use to DLing games.
If they self publish, they'll have a lot more control over their game...|||Publishers really bring nothing to the table except money. But, money is a really big thing to bring.
Self-publishing is the same as self-employment its totally better except it almost never works.
I too hope that K&C remains self-published. I dream of what Demigod could have been if GPG had the cash to finish it alone.
[edit: oops -- they need to take the GPG Employee off my account. I'm just another fan these days]|||totonka|||Probably the same thing that always happens, you bring on and let go of extra help as a game progresses. It is very normal to not stay with a developer in the long term unless you are a "senior" level developer.|||Yeah, nothing bad happened. I just got a gig doing something else, somewhere else (top secret I'm afraid). But, K&C was looking really cool when I left, and now I'm as eager as the next guy to see this come out.
I also can't wait for the Sup Com 2 patch, but I don't have any inside knowldge of what and when that will be.
