TW-like set piece battles

[:1]After watching the E3 vid of KnC my first reaction was that artillery is needed (ballistas, onagers, stalinorgel, big berthas). Archers and cavalry too, preferably attacking and defending in formation.
With these elements this game would already resemble Total War games quite a bit, which made me think that allowing a seperate game/mode in which battles are fought total-war style might be a fun addition. Making such set-piece battle possible would also emphasize the importance of terrain in battle, an aspect i really like about TW games. This will emphasise positioning and timing (being at the right place etc) rather than the brawl in the E3 trailer or the blob-fighting in SC2 and may therefore also improve standard base/castle centric warfare as welll (which btw i still prefer).
Maybe this is too complicated or perhaps too far from the intended game, but I felt like putting the idea out there :-)

btw Only now i guess this should be in the suggestions rather than in the general discussion section, ah well|||yes because the e3 trailer showed every single unit available at release there will only be footmen, a king, giant ballon ships and a dragon. thats it no other units will be added, dur derp di dum da diddly derp|||Fouquet|||spuddyt|||I got your point. But I would like you to elaborate a bit. I, too, liked TotalWar in many respects. And I think you meant the idea of selecting an army in a pre-battle stage given a certain "budget" requiring you to choose wisely. Each player has the same number of points to spend so their choice of unit mixes would play a key factor rather than the base game (for SupCom, KnC, etc.) which is always, more or less, about who got the best eco going so as to overwhelm or over-tech the opponent. Is that the aspect you were referring to, in part?
Or did you just mean the way that terrain and placement play a big role?
In TotalWar battles, your initial deployment of groups is a key factor. But also attacking from the flank and morale are big factors as well.
So I'd like you to elaborate and talk more specifically about which elements would lend themselves to KnC? I'm intrigued.|||If your talking about pre-chosen armies based on a points allowance then yes I think that would be great as a mod (official or 3rd party).
If you remember in SupCom, there was an official mod called "chess", where you had a pre-defined army. Unfortunately iirc you couldn't choose the units based on points or anything, so it was a bit crap.
Same thing with a points-spending UI would be great :)
