VLOG #32 Ahh, ViKINGS (sic).

[:1]Facebewk Video.
YouTube Video.
And Gadgeteers have volleys of arrows.|||**** YOU FACEBOOOOK!
HACK cough Viking helmets didn't have horns!
Just had to get that out of my system.|||Hardcore mode sounds REALLY interesting.|||Polynomial|||sounds like a lot of extra work that ends up diluting everything.
I say nay, and keep the goofy stuff.
Or just go with higher requirements for more detail, it could become fancy high end RTS or something|||I like the idea of hard counters like Chris said infantry being stopped by walls, not being slowed down.|||**** you Nifty.
No one else cares whether soldiers hit walls with swords. *Stop getting precious screentime in our videos.*|||Epiphenomenon|||There is some really good stuff in this vlog imo:
- The formations look great and I like the way you can choose which direction they will face. And also big props for the pathfinding, it just looks so smooth!
- The Viking King artwork looks very promising. Okay, Vikingss had no horns on their helmets but still, it looks great! Maybe we could just call them Barbarians or Wild Men or something?
- Hardcore mode is another good idea imo! And I wouldn't mind a 747 dash board if it is under "advanced game settings" somewhere... ;)
What was the conversation at the end of the vlog about? Dynamic changes to maps on a large scale? :D|||I don't see why they have to get different modes for everything, I don't think soldiers should be able to attack brick walls and do significant damage, period. I don't see why that needs to be a special mode since it's the realistic and standard, and cool way of doing it.
And for all you whiners about that, simple make it an upgrade for the walls, from crappy walls to strong walls, balance it, problem solved.|||Mazrix|||Image|||chosan|||mojom@n|||Epiphenomenon|||I'm OK with their king having horns on his helm to make him stand out, but I hope the common soldiers lack horns.|||Col. Jessep|||That is good. I hope they can properly implement that.|||That formation thingie... euhm, isn't that what we already saw in the SupCom games by right-clicking and holding on a location when you had a group of units selected?|||The implementation was a bit different and there was no flowfield.|||sorian|||Not as exciting as some of the previous Vlogs, but I liked the barbarian dude concept.
I'm also intrigued by this gadgeteers business.. I wonder if they'll be as fancy as the Vinci faction from Rise of Legends..|||Col. Jessep|||X-Cubed|||Viking monarch looks interesting with a hint of evilness with the downward-pointing jagged horns. I'm guessing they'll be a (stereotypical) Norse faction with everything you'd expect from vikings: Berserkers, Bear/wolfskins, viscous unrelenting warriors with a very good navy. The odd dragon here 'n there and some limited indirect magic. (veruna)
Gageteers sounds like the high-tech faction, emphasising technology above everything else, possibly using magic as just another controlable tool. (creon)
The dynamic flowfield cost stamps really really sounds amazing as you can then have heavy soldiers forming makeshift lines, or siege engines deploying and having units flow around them. Heck, you can have romanesque turtle defensive formations, in theory. :D
Gageteer arrow volley machine looks silly though, which is understandable due to being a 3d concept unit, but having those barrels angled differently seems to indicate that it may be meant as a saturation weapon. I'd much prefer to see several large vertical crossbows each shooting half a dozen arrows each with long reload times. Possibly making each crossbow an individual barrel allowing for staggered firing, think supcom1 uef (or was it cybran?) battleship turrets. i'm definitely getting ahead of myself here. :p
