KnC in 3D?

[:1]3D is fast becoming very popular.
Personally, I dont see 3D movies ever becoming the mainstream money makers for moview studios (I know, Avatar, toy story 3 etc etc, i still dont think it will be around for long in movies, simply because it is prohibitavly expensive do it for a large screen in a sitting room)
I do think that the 3D technology will come to gaming in a big way, however. The PS3 got a simple firmware update to allow it to output in 3D, presumably for 3D blu-rays. I can only assume that it can be used for games in 3D.
3D laptops and monitors are quickly becoming popular, with nVidia releasing cards that can utilize them (not sure about AMD/ATI).
So, to the point, do you think that KnC could be one of the first 3D RTS's? Personally, id love to see it. Id love to see buildings that jump out the screen at you, rocks from catapults/trebuchets hurtling out of the screen before crashing back to the ground. Who knows, those lovely landscapes in SupCom2 could be even more beautiful with true depth of field?
I know it might be a niche market, but it still would be nice and may be a unique selling point for KnC. Also, it would have to be togglable, so people without the 3D hardware wont be hurt by it :-)
What you guys think? Support it or no? Maybe GPG can think about it for a future game?
Discuss please!|||No.
Waste of money in my opinion, especially as the technology is still new and will probably be utilized by less than 1% of the people who buy the game.|||Hazza616|||If GPG had a titanic budget, I'd say go for it. However, they don't and I don't think 3D will have much of an effect in an RTS. Crysis 2 is using 3D, and they say it will allow things like bullets to jump out at you, adding to the experience. But in RTSes, things don't really jump out at you except for maybe high-arc artillery and debris from large explosions. Also, with the strat zoom for KnC, you will often be zoomed out too far to really notice the effect. So I'd say 3D is not worth it.|||X-Cubed|||On PCs you usually get 3D for free in the gfx card drivers anyways.
GPG just needs to make sure the game doesnt break in various ways (eg. the HUD graphics needs to work at the correct depth in 3D, etc.)|||wobbles-grogan|||wobbles-grogan|||I've heard that 3D was useful for games like Bad Company 2 where judging distances became easier with 3D enabled. However, its usefulness in RTS is questionable.|||nVidia's cross-game system seems to be the only big push in 3D gaming. I know a couple experimental games have built-in systems, like Spring RTS, but it doesn't seem to be a huge priority.
As for RTS, once again Spring RTS implements 3D in a lot of ways (Red/Blue, Red/Cyan, Anaglyph, Shutter glasses, Cross-eyed), and it seems okay, but the only thing I noticed was that trees seemed a little more distinct from the ground. Otherwise it didn't make much difference. That's probably the most comparable to KnC.
Also, Does anyone remember Pangea Software (Nanosaur, Cro-Mag Rally, Enigmo)? Most of their games had 3D modes, and that was back in 2000. This isn't really anything new.|||Cant see 3D ever becoming a big part of gaming. Certainly not a part of RTSs.|||No thanks. I like my videogames headache-free.|||Even more than motion controls, which at least has some chance of providing new gameplay if done well, 3D is a gimmick that adds nothing.
Then again, "immersion" has never been something I cared about, so ymmv.
I won't bother with 3D until it's so completely seamless that all TVs are just 3D by default and it's like the TV is a window into the scene, no glasses required.
As long as there is awfulness like glasses and ghosting and headaches, 3D is stupid.|||Just so you guys know, 3D is bad for your vision. It's also pretty stupid/annoying for the most part.|||btw

Chris says 3D will be supported(cracked out mailbag).. He doesn't say what kind, but just noticed it while watching all the vlogs again..|||I'll throw my hat in the "not of a fan of 3D" ring. I definitely wouldn't use it if they added it into the game. I'm hoping this latest wave of 3D gaming/movies/etc is just another fad like it always is. :-P|||3D is the sickest thing ever. I love seeing things pop out at you so much. Its so scary when it feels like it is right in front of you. I just wish real life was in 3D. It would be so awesome to see things pop out at you all the time.|||HighFlyer15|||electro2|||-The-Baron-|||electro2
