Back in the day Priests used to be the best support an army could have because they had there corresponding god on there side. So maybe add them as like a support character that could when needed could channel ( stay in one spot and use a skill) some speel and the surrounding troops in a set area would be buffed.
Priests would be extremly vulnarble and a very easy target so they might not be used unless you plan to protect them. In other words have some meat bags to get the archers attetion before bringing your main army that is suplmented with priests.|||Some sort of wizardry or magic was said to take place in this, so it's a realistic thing to say that your wish will be fleshed out even before you asked for it. :)
Age of Empires (even since and before the Rome expansion <-- GREAT game!) had this, they prove quiet useful - though, they seemed to dwindle in... exclusive (I don't know if that's the right word) powers in later games... eg. I had the AOEII Rome exp. for time, but all I'd do is train some priests and take over the AI's units. Seems that that's not possible (at least in the... extent that I did it to almost everything) anymore... boo hoo right.|||Ancient soldiers could resent priests. The priests represent a transcendent order (worship a transcendent god) but soldiers and warriors live in a very much imminent world. Even modern soldiers often get annoyed by the chaplain, he is just another fobbit who doesn't understand the reality of the situation but presumes to give instruction.
Ancient and Medieval armies didn't need priests the had kings. A Medieval king was chosen by God, and a ancient king was a god. Why do you need preists to tell you god is on your side if you can see him over there. He's the guy riding the elephant covered in gold.|||Maybe the preiest could be like a secondary commander? Who wants to send there king out to die when he could send an expendable priest.
