Anyone agree with me?|||A lot of posts have been made on this case. Chris said it might not even be made for the xBox.|||I think the best way to go is to make the game for PCs, and then, using the art assets and general story, make a DIFFERENT game for consoles, based on the same franchise.
The console version will be as simplified as necessary to work well on the console, but it might have different gameplay that's fun in its own way.
They can share the same units, story, cutscenes, assets, etc, and much of the underlying code, so its cheaper.
This way everyone wins - we get a PC game, consoles get a console game, and GPG gets console money to support the less profitable PC version.|||AdmiralZeech|||Starcraft 2 will never ever ever ever ever ever be released on console. Imagine trying to keep a 175 APM on a gamepad. Never. Going. To. Happen.
In fact, I will eat my hand if it does.
Back to K&C, I hope GPG makes a game that works so well on PC, that its too good to port to console (like FA)|||Mr Pinguin|||I'd go with the PC first, then chop stuff out for the console version. I would think cutting stuff out is easier than adding stuff to a less capable foundation. There is no reason why the PC and console can't both be utilized, as long as each game is different and focuses on the strengths of each platform. So no direct ports, but a modified version of the PC game will be put on the console.|||Agreed. RTS games should stay on the PC.|||AdmiralZeech|||Your average xbox gamer cares about:
Halo
Call of Duty
Madden
Gears of War
They do not care about RTS games. Any fan of RTS knows the only way to play it is through a PC.
The idea of GPG releasing a game for PC and then cutting stuff for the console version has already been done - see Supreme Commander. They released the game for the pc and then ported it to the xbox 360 some months later. The game was an absolute failure.
Having the game on Steam is great because it limits piracy, and it also opens the game up to the steam community. I personally own over 40 games on Steam and love all the upgrades and changes valve continues to bring to the platform.
Starcraft 2 has sold over 3 million copies and it has only been out one month. There is definitely a market for PC RTS, I just think GPG needs to get this games name out there. SupCom 1 sold very well because it was all over gaming sites. I didn't see much of supcom 2.|||I wouldn't say SupCom sold "very" well, because THQ didn't seem satisfied. It wasn't a failure, but it wasn't the fastest selling game ever. It did make the #1 selling position in late Feb. 2007, but it took until late 2008 IIRC to reach the 1 million sales mark. Also, I think SupCom was all over the news because of the Crysis Effect rather than being a massive hit.
The other possibility I see is to make a spin-off game based on the KnC universe for the consoles, like an RPG version of KnC or a Demigod-like game.|||3rd person monarch console hack 'n slash with items! Just tried to connect the dots... fail? Maybe.
So units, buildings, and smaller versions of maps can all be reused, but the gameplay and control scheme is much more appropriate for console.|||AdmiralZeech|||MisterCheif|||I'd rather have no console version at all... Any self-respecting RTS player plays on PC.
