GPGnet?

[:1]I'm still mighty impressed with GPGnet and was surprised with Supcom 2 going with their own in-game lobby, match making, etc.
Is K&C going to utilize gpgnet or is gpgnet going to die with the last game of Supcom 1/FA?|||I dont remember where, probably a cracked out email, but CT has said they are sticking with Steam. So, no, no GPGnet for K&C.
There is a logistical cause for this, rumor has it, no one has touched the source code for it in so long, no one remembers how to anymore. An even less likely rumor says they do not have the source code for it anymore. Either way, no more updates for GPGnet.|||It's in a VBlog that they're using Steam.|||That's a shame. That system is outstanding.|||seiya|||I don't have any major gripes with GPGnet, its functional and works well.
On the other hand I also don't have any major issues with SC2 and Steam.
Neither is perfect, but I'd be willing to bet it'd be a lot easier to improve the Steam system they just built than to try and improve the GPGnet, whom the creator has long since left GPG.
Mike|||RastiMinato|||Headless|||GPGnet Chat was easily the best public chatroom I've been a part of. A minimal of flaming, assholes, and assholish flamers. The only real problem I had with the chatroom was some fellow named Bentway who seemed rather interested in the development of my masculinity. I ignored him, so no problem there. Most public chatrooms I see are full of 10000 types of spam. GPGnet was rather great. The moderators liked a joke as much as anyone else, and most of the admins were down to earth. If I was stuck in the house for a day or two because of bad weather or other reasons, GPGnet was sure to be on.
TL:DR, implement a similar public chat, in a similar way.|||A Steam room for only KNC owners would be best. The only trolls you'll get are those who've paid for the game, which is still a sale for GPG.|||BulletMagnet|||I was thinking a bot with Officer status that kicked folk whom didn't have KNC in their games list. I don't know if you can have privacy settings to block games lists, to that could be a problem.|||BulletMagnet|||I want it to use GPGnet. :<. Just thought i'd add that in there. It's so much better, and so much LESS ANNOYING than damn steam, and doesn't steal all my bandwidth when i've only just booted up my computer. -.-/|||I can't see how this thing can't be reverse engineered. Seems that if they can build a game they can crack the code to gpgnet.
I think I understand why STEAM is getting the nod though. I think it has more to do with distribution than features.|||Ozz13|||Sooo... what hours are GPG open till? I know they don't work on weekends but during the weekdays is there a general understanding that 4:30pm is home time or what?|||Based off of the video's I'd say they break at 4:20 for sure.
Back on topic; Hoping CT at least has the same vision of the features that GPGnet has. Just because it's STEAM doesn't mean the functionality can't be built into the game itself.|||_Remmy_|||We should all email chris so he has no choice but to respond in the cracked out mailbag and if we don't like the answer we just keep annoying them till they fold!
They said they wanted our input and IMHO GPGnet > Steam.
Down with steam! Go GPGnet 2.0!
Build it from the ground up if you can't make sense of the source anymore damnit.|||Legion Darrath|||Mooilo|||Mooilo|||Legion Darrath|||Here are my 2 cents:
I hate GPGnet. I could never log in, since just by patching, I somehow logged in twice. If it crashed, I couldnt play for 24 hours, and the Vault doesnt work for most people. The only pro was the chat, which was almost always active. The final issue is that it is just another program that I have to open to play a game.
Steam, on the other hand always works for me, I have all my games on there, there are frequent sales, I can go on the steam chat for my favorite steam groups, talk to my friends, and browse the web on the overlay while waiting for a match to be found. Did I mention that I keep Steam open 24/7. Plus, a GOOD steam chat can work, for example, the TF2maps.net chat is always active, and has great moderation. Stop by some time.

What would be great is a vault system, run by Steam servers, allowing downloading of mods and maps from in game.

THE END.
