Define realism... or gameplay...

[:1]Not to Hijack Eric, but I see people not thinking that "realistic" and "Gameplay" are easy to describe as blanket statements. So, I will try to make a poll to fit better to what I saw in the thing.
I like gameplay, but I also think that realism adds that cool factor to the game. If you think I should change the idea of the poll, say so.
and just to clarify what I gathered from the thread, "gameplay" is balance, how the game is played, how the mechanics run and work. If I want better gameplay, I don't care whether GPG uses Elves, humans, or talking cockroaches, I just want the game to run and play from a balanced/numerical standpoint. "Realism" is the Internal Consistency, realistic point of the game. If I want realism, I want units to look like they are walking at a speed achievable to man :D , I want normal units to not be able to damage walls, or I want units to not bounce into/go through each other.
Do notice, I defined the extremes, to prove a point/define the situation. There are medians for both.
EDIT: thanks for the clarrification :)|||To quote some of the sage from that thread;
K-lord|||@Bullet: So basically you want Dots to write the story for the game. :wink:|||Theres also the reverse - where you do all sorts of acrobatics in the lore, to justify game mechanics.
eg. in my space game that im not going to write, its overmap is 2D, so I use some lore about FTL travel being in "Planar Space", where distances are different to real space.|||TehClawEternal|||AdmiralZeech|||BulletMagnet|||Well, that is also a good point.|||zhengwei|||redmoth|||qian0818|||Spambot season. They seem to be much stronger than the forum's captcha thing, I suggest a Buff to the captcha. They also seem to be copy-pasting posts at random from nearby forums in an attempt to appear "not-spambot-ish".
My suggestions for buffs:
- making the captcha a small flash game that you need a certain score to get through.... that would be fun.
- Having an animated captcha, with non-standard instructions. IE: type the symbols in the order of magnitude of their oscillations, largest to smallest.

Coincidentaly, would anyone like some Coachbags?|||I suggest simple math problem. 2 or 3 captchaed numbers in pic, then text underneath the image that tells you to add, multiple, etc... them.|||I suggest a little grammar quiz: To pass you have to be able to use you're/your properly. This would probably solve a lot of other issues as well... :D|||Realism can lead to awesome gameplay. Look at total war combat and formations. No, I dont mean the garbage that is Empire/Napoleon, but Medieval/Rome. All kinds of awesome formations, morale, unit abilities... Realistic to some degree but also awesome for gameplay. Of course, gameplay come first, always. but if the developer is creative they can make it fit together nicely. (Yay I want shogun 2)
