Press Release

Gas Powered Games Announces Chris Taylor’s Kings and Castles
Acclaimed developer to take fans behind-the-scenes of the development of its all-new real-time strategy game
REDMOND, WA (FEBRUARY 15, 2009) – Gas Powered Games announced today that work has started on Kings and Castles, an epic real-time strategy game for the PC and next-generation consoles. This one-of-a-kind experience will let players take on the role of one of three powerful kings who are vying for control of an all-new, original fantasy world.
“We’re doing something different this time around,” said Chris Taylor, Creative Director of Gas Powered Games. “We want to take our fans on a great adventure with us. They’ll get to go behind-the-scenes and watch the game come to life from start to finish.”
Using the game’s website (http://www.kingsandcastles.com) and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter (follow DeathBot9, Chris Taylor’s personal account), GPG will give its fans a (mostly) unfiltered look inside the development process of Kings and Castles. “Synergy will be leveraged, and paradigms will be established,” said Taylor. “More importantly, buzzwords will be utilized.”
GPG will be posting regular updates about Kings and Castles on its website. The first video blog went live today. It contains graphic scenes of wood chopping, chickens, and the obligatory horse biting.
Future installments will take fans step-by-step through the design process, discussing the creation of prototypes, the work that goes into creating the visual look and feel, while others will cover the proper care and feeding of chickens.
Kings and Castles will utilize the state-of-the-art RTS technology that Gas Powered Games has pioneered with its previous titles. Key features include the ability to zoom to any level, incredible maps, and eye-popping visuals that will run on a wide range of systems.
“We also promise to gouge evil from its shell at least once, or maybe twice,” said Taylor. “But not three times. That would be weird.”

Is this the Game Jables is working on?

We know that Sorian is busy with a different project. I wonder if Jables is on this one. That would give an idea of how long it's been in production.|||I don't think so. Sorian said he's not on this project, and he's apparently on the same project Jables is.|||Never said I was on the same project as Jables.|||I thought you did. Oh well.|||sorian|||Scath... ahem, Sorian

April Fools!

Wait, what? It's February? Crap....|||Go away please.|||I laughed.

Not.

Kings and Castles page on Facebook not accessible

I think GPG somehow made the same mistake as Square-Enix did with the SupCom 2 Facebook page: not making it accessible to everyone from the start.

If I click the Kings and Castles page it just takes me to the home page of Facebook. My guess, just like with SupCom 2, is that there are regional restrictions set on the K&C page. People living in the US can probably view it/become fan but folks from Europe (including me) probably can't?

These restrictions can be easily removed according to Facebook Help by the person/admin who created the Page:

Quote:|||Yep, same here. Seems they made the same mistake as Square Enix initially with the SupCom2 Facebook page ;)|||I have passed this info along and as soon as I get a proper URL for the facebook page, the site will be updated.

Thanks for the report.|||This should be fixed now! Thanks for pointing it out.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chris-Taylors-Kings-and-Castles/301420299823|||yep. Australia can see it now.

thanks.|||Hahaha, Bulletmagnet, remember challenging off-topic to find out your real name a few months ago? I believe I have now discovered it :P|||old news, my friend.|||Yep, works perfectly now.

Is this what the test sub section was for?

Well?|||maybe...

or maybe not :D|||And Off-Topic gets pushed further down the screen.|||FunkyKong|||I guess it was.|||We may never know.|||Well, we have to find out one day.|||KnC|||MaulMachine|||...Yes, to post in a thread on the subject, you do.

I think the Kings and Castles section has its very own Czar.|||gpgITninja

Publisher?

Anyone with good guesses?

Do they even have one yet?|||No - Thats why they are still allowed to communicate with us ;)|||In that case, screw publishers!|||Since when do they need a publisher? Screw them publishers, indeed.|||Digital distribution ftw.|||With all due respect for GPG but with no publisher attached to a project like this, even if it's just late in development when it gets signed, KaC won't allow for the same audiovisual standards and options we saw in the original SupCom games. Animating a fantasy world is gonna be a lot more intensive than a sci-fi universe. At least they already got the Cybrannasaurus fire breath for a dragon. :)

If GPG even had to sign with a publisher for Demigod (not exactly the most content-rich game ever) then I am afraid that a publisher for KaC will be just as essential.

Best options?

Don't know, every publisher had a f*ckup sometimes. I think currently EA Partners or a known German publisher (like Deep Silver/Koch) looks the most interesting.

Just don't get involved with SEGA, Jowood, Ubisoft or Atari. Bad stuff will come from that imo.|||German publisher? Really?

Square Enix was already weird enough =P|||Ryuken|||speaking of which; what ever happened to that competitor to Demigod that EA was peddling?

vapourware?|||I bet even DeadMG could program a competitor to Demigod and actually have it compete.|||Stin|||BattleForge isn't even like Demigod and it's not all that good, either.|||EeeeK! BaTtLeFoRgE. -lol

-----

Kings and Castles needs a developer that doesn't go by the name 'Electronic Arts'.

we don't want the excessive invocation of "crunch time" layed on the team just to launch the game on time.|||I thought gpg would be self-publishing?|||GPG are -sort- of self publishing, rather than dealing through a central publisher who then sells the rights out regionally, they will be doing the selling themselves.

It should help them avoid being under the kosh of one big company and give them a little more creative freedom.|||Yes so instead of being a slave they are more like a prostitute.|||scotchtape622|||Did they say for certain they were self publishing?|||Ryuken|||That's why I say it. :) Space Siege wasn't Sega's only f*ckup on PC btw (and it also wasn't the game it was supposed to be at first if we can believe the rumours). Just ask Petroglyph.|||Demigod had to be the most content less modern game in the history of gaming, that's not a good sign. The game had 8 maps, of which only 2 are regularly played and most play cataract most of the time.|||Demigod's faults or not, Stardock is one of the better publishers to be partnered with.|||Ryuken|||I'd put this one under rumours and off-the-record talk. GPG can't directly say anything like that or they wouldn't find a publisher for a new game anymore. I heard the same story about Petroglyph and their Sega-published Universe at War btw.|||And really I wouldn't doubt those stories. On the publishers defense they are trying to spend the least amount of money on a game while getting the most out from it. Some just really suck at that balancing act whether they make money or not from a game.

Chris' new game

http://gaspowered.com/kingsandcastles/

Facebook|||Here we go, supreme commander: kingdoms.|||Haha. I thought it looked kinda cool. Reminds me of AoE II.|||SCALPEL

I'm going to remove his spine.|||...Seriously? What the hell ever happened to Dungeon Siege 3? :( Ugh...they havent even reales SupCom2 which is an RTS yet! This seriously is making me think that the support for SupCom 2 will be minuscule...|||CT gets more retarded and unbearable to watch with every video released.|||I was just trolled by Chris Taylor.

payback is a bitch.|||maxfreak|||clunk.|||patton5219|||at least GPG has appeared to learn one thing; keep the community in the loop.

weekly video blogs should keep everyone's attention, and hopefully stave off unsubstantiated rumours.|||Oh, alright, I'll admit.

I wasn't expecting this.

At all.

Oh god.

This video.

What.

Is this some counter-ad for SupCom2?

No... he's serious.

As serious as CT can be.

I don't even.

From the Press Release: "“Synergy will be leveraged, and paradigms will be established,” said Taylor. “More importantly, buzzwords will be utilized.”"

"Future installments will take fans step-by-step through the design process, discussing the creation of prototypes, the work that goes into creating the visual look and feel, while others will cover the proper care and feeding of chickens."

"“We also promise to gouge evil from its shell at least once, or maybe twice,” said Taylor. “But not three times. That would be weird.”"

Seriously? I mean, that's great, but why didn't they do this with SupCom2?|||It pisses me off he decided to do that with this game and not his crown jewel SupCom...|||BulletMagnet|||^ o.o X-D Wow...lol|||maxfreak|||I'm not sure how I should feel about this.........

Mike|||Yea me neither. For some reason I feel annoyed|||Well, that revealed remarkably little about the actual game.|||Chris wants another AoE. -with fantasy.

i'm up for that! let's see if he can top it!

[croud chants] Chris! Chris! Chris!

Image|||I haven't watched the video yet.|||Unless you want to rage, I wouldnt recommend it, ert.|||Mooilo|||Don't bother, you won't learn anything from it.
